Sponsored talk
Speaker: Kees van Bochove, founder and CEO of The Hyve
Abstract
Open source software plays a pivotal role in scientific collaboration between academic centers and pharmaceutical companies, particularly in the area of translational research. This talk will use a few examples of successful open source projects to demonstrate this point, and discuss success factors for such collaborations. Two of the projects, TranSMART and OHDSI, originated at a pharmaceutical company (Johnson & Johnson), while the third example, cBioPortal, was created by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Please join the discussion if you have created open source software or communities, and would like to bring this to the attention of industry and software companies! Or if you are interested in general in developing collaborations around open source software in bioinformatics and health informatics.
The presenter, Kees van Bochove, is founder and CEO of The Hyve, a company based in Utrecht, The Netherlands and Cambridge, MA, US that provides services around open source software in bioinformatics and translational research.
