Date: Sunday September 4, 2016
Time: 9:00 – 12:30 (half day tutorial)
Venue: World Forum, room: Asia
We live in the high throughput data era. Even the simplest biological experiments result in truckloads of arrays, NGS data, etc. Are you a computational biologist or bioinformatician performing the same standard analysis on these sets over and over again? Then this session is for you.
With the biomedical researcher in mind, we developed a comprehensive open access web-based platform called R2 which forms a valuable intermediate between bioinformaticians and wetlab researchers, cited in Pubmed 325+ times. Next to gene expression (microarrays and RNAseq), the platform is also being employed for the integration, analysis and visualization of other data types, like arrayCGH, SNP, ChIP, methylation, miRNA, IC50, and NGS transcriptome/mutation data. When processed data is made accessible to the web-platform, a wealth of analyses can be performed quickly (most results are available in less than a minute). As such R2 provides a central starting point from where a range of data mining and analysis paths can be followed within one environment.
During a half-day workshop you will be introduced to various aspects of the platform and get acquainted to it with hands-on sessions. So come and see what the R2 platform can do for you and your non-bioinformatician co-workers!
The R2 session will be composed of short talks introducing concepts within the platform, followed by hands-on practical tasks, where the obtained knowledge will be put into practice. Therefore participants should bring their own laptop for the session. Prior knowledge on the principles of microarrays, gene expression data analysis and genomics will be helpful to get the most out of the session, but is not required. Experienced users of R2 can also use the session to get feedback on their own analyses. The session is suitable for those already working with high throughput molecular biology data.
09:00-09:30 Lecture 1: what is R2 and how does it work (by Dr. Jan Koster)
09:30-10:30 Hands-on: Explore R2 with tutorials (Supervised by R2 experts)
10:30-11:00 Break
11:00-11:30 Lecture 2: Advanced usage and integrative analyses (by Dr. Jan Koster)
